This class will combine gentle yoga postures with restorative yoga, to provide healing for both body and mind. This class will help to improve flexibility of the hips and shoulders, which will decrease demands on the back and allow the spine to rotate properly. The gentle stretching will help to increase blood flow to the tissues that support the spine, improving the health of the intervertebral discs and muscles along the spine. This class will also help to reduce stress and fatigue; and balance the nervous system.
Restorative yoga is a simplified form of yoga created specifically for stress reduction and injury rehabilitation. Restorative yoga is particularly helpful for individuals with back pain, as it consists of gentle movement and simple yoga postures which are achieved and supported through the use of blankets/props, easing the body into a comfortable position. These postures are then held for a short time to encourage physical and mental relaxation, and provide relief from back pain. Modifications will be provided, as needed, making this class accessible for students unable to be on their knees. This class is suitable for students of all levels, as long as you are able to get to the floor.
